I Like French Food and Wine - A Maconnais Chardonnay.

Well find out whether that lack of disrepute is merited or not. If you're visiting Burgundy, and you should, be sure to stop by the Cte dOr town of Chteauneuf about 25 miles ( 40 kilometers ) southwest of Dijon in northerly Burgundy. This tiny hilltop town appears to come directly out of the the Middle Ages, excepting the travellers who've lately discovered it. The wine reviewed below comes from the Mconnais area of southern Burgundy, whose wine production is just about ninety percent white, just about exclusively Chardonnay. Today the site lies in ruins, as it's been since the French Revolution, but what ruins. The site contains a horse-breeding center set up by Napoleon using stone from the abbey. The first name appertains to Augustus Caesar who modestly described it as "the sister and rival of Rome itself. Each Aug ( do you actually think thats a coincidence? ) historically costumed neighbors put on a period piece. Talking about Napoleon, he and his bro studied at the local army academy, where at age 9 the future Emperor first learned French.

Its astringency was a good accompaniment to fruit-juice candy.

The Dutch Edam was nutty, a bit greasy, and moderately sour.
