Eating Well on your Camping Vacation in Burgundy.

Having no bread to supply, I quickly close the window.

There are a deck, Jacuzzi spa, sauna, fitness studio, and bicycles for guests to ride down the canal trails. Nick, our guide, had picked us up in Paris the day before before the Hotel Ampre. A 2 hour journey by minivan thru rolling French country had brought us to the medieval city of Auxerre, where La Belle poque and her crew awaited. It appeared to be a massive market city for lumber and wine and a vital religious center.

Its a horrible image, but thankfully something that is now a thing of the past as many of Europes quality campsites boasts all sort of hotel style features from cafes to bakeries to quality shops on site. These are some of the appetising treats you should prepare for whilst camping in Burgundy. For lots more stories about burgundy wine tasting. The Beef The main meat in the area is the Carollais meat cattle, and as such meat eaters are assured enormous rich portions. Coq au Vin follows an analogous formula, only with chicken rather than meat. There are lots of other meats if you are not a chicken or meat eater, varied hams, hare, calf head and even some river fish generally poached in white wine, with bacon, onions, garlic and butter. Eventually naturally, there are the snails, and though many folks will turn their noses up at them, the common-or-garden escargots are tasty, served as they are stewed with Chablis, carrots, onions and shallots, then crammed with garlic and parsley butter. If you consider yourself a connoisseur, you may need to think about the black snails ( the best of which are raised on grape leaves ) which are regarded as amongst the best in France.

The Cheese The cheeses are another fine part of the regions cuisine, and a very pleasant present to bring back from your vacation spent camping in Burgundy. In France there may be more than 2,700 miles of inland waterways including a 750-mile network of connecting canals. As we glide by a rolling patchwork of green hills and pretty vineyards, lunch is served : quails in crme frache sauce, tuna pasta salad, caprisi salad, fruits, a white Savignon St-Bris and a red Chitry. There are 2 kinds of cheese with exotic namesDelice de Bourgogne and St At the stone cottage ( complete with satellite Television dish ) of Mr. Bersan, we descend into a traditional cavern for a wine sampling. Everywhere there's a flat surface, wine bottles lay in horizontal slumber.
